Knowledge Dig 2

The main purpose of a knowledge dig is to encourage students to dig beneath the surface of the readings and audiobook (and any other relevant learning materials for a specific session). Towards this end digs are formatted like a discussion.

Being a good discussant involves three skills: reading and reflecting deeply about the learning materials, posting thoughtful questions and comments, and taking the time to carefully read the e-discussion as it unfolds.

One implication of this format is that as the discussion evolves you'll need to make sure to read the previously posted discussion points before posting your question. You’ll also need to keep checking the discussion even if you have already posted a comment and a question.

The spirit of this type of assignment is to have a rich e-discussion before our class session. Then, based on issues that are raised in this discussion, I’ll choose how to focus our live class session meeting.

You can submit more than one question or more than one comment. The spirit of this activity is to have a give-and-take discussion, not to meet mechanical classroom requirements.

Over a 14 day period you'll submit at least one comment and one response based on the learning materials for Session 2 on Cognitive Load. This dig gets completed in two stages: Dig 2a and Dig 2b.

Dig 2a: The deadline for this portion of the dig is Monday February 1 at midnight. By this time you need to have posted at least one comment about cognitive load.

Dig 2b: The deadline for this portion of the dig is Wednesday February 3 at midnight. By this time you need to have posted at least one response to another student’s post.

Virtual Office

We have one continuous Virtual Office for the full semester. This post includes all of the virtual office questions starting January 20th and will run through May 10th.

Use the commenting feature to add a question, or to add an answer. Anybody can post a question, and certainly anybody can respond or try to answer a specific question as well. I will be checking this virtual office daily and will typically respond to any query in less than 24 hours (weekends being an exception).
